Yes it was a glioblastoma multiforme cancerous tumor in my left brain. The surgery successfully removed it, however there will always be cancer cells left behind With this type of GBM. I will need to be in treatment indefinitely to ward off this particular type of cancer. Dr. Grimm did say however he has a patient with a similar situation and treatment plan, and he has lived 25 years! (If you google glioblastoma multiforme the life expectancy is not as optimistic). I am personally going for 30 years! I'll live till I'm 84... That seems reasonable.
Yes my oncologists name is Dr Grimm. He was also my dear friend Kirsten’s Doctor when she was receiving treatment for the same type of brain cancer at Northwestern 12-14 years ago. He remembered her, I had met him in her hospital room. Kirsten unfortunately passed away in August 2009, almost 12 years to the date of my conscious craniotomy brain surgery. We were good friends, roommates and we also partnered to open Idao gallery in the early 90s. We lived together behind the gallery on North Avenue and Claremont in Wicker Park, 1992-1994. I wonder if something toxic was in the wallsI It’s quite a coincidence that we both had GBM. Dr. Grimm said that there have been all kinds of advancement in treatments since then, that my case is completely different. (He also said that I could drink 2 glasses of wine per day and smoke as much weed as I'd like to.... so the future is not too grim!)
