A bit of a setback Once the radiation hit about the five week mark and then the following weeks I had mobility issues due to the inflammation caused by the radiation. My right leg stopped working again and essentially it got to the point where I had to get admitted to the hospital, had a bunch of test done, spine MRI is clear, no new growth… very likely leg issues due to the inflammation caused by the radiation in the same spot where the tumor was. My right leg just spasms, gets tight, stiff, toes curl under, and I tip over! I am back in a wheelchair.
I am also back at Shirley Ryan ability lab I was here recovering from the conscious craniotomy mid August so from the end of August to the middle of September I was here and made very quick progress with my mobility. I got the right leg working, (It was limp and weak after surgery, not these stiffening spasms ). I was using a walker getting around pretty well and able to do our 14 stairs at home in the Fall. I was doing outpatient physical therapy in Burr Ridge 2-3 days per week for three hours per day and keeping up my strength until this weird flareup happened, and I was basically laid up bed ridden from Thanksgiving until I got stretchered off the second floor of our home on 11/29, and readmitted to Rush hospital. I had some tests already scheduled pushed up a week… Bloodwork spine MRI etc. they also tested me to make sure it wasn’t seizures with electrodes glued to my head monitor the first night in a padded jail bed basically! All the tests that were run had positive results no spread of cancer in my spine no seizures.
They transferred me to Shirley Ryan ability lab for intense physical and occupational therapy on Saturday, December 3. My stay here is likely to run through December 24 and I hope to make the fast progress that I did before and be more independent and safe at home again. We are looking into getting chair lifts for the stairs out front and for the stairs from the first floor to the second floor in our home. Holy shit they are expensive I’m starting a go fund me!
